    Bicycle Maintenance

Keeping your bicycle tuned and road worthy is an important aspect of cycling.  For anyone who rides a bike there are a couple of things we can all do to keep our bike safe and working properly.

    • Keep the chain lubricated and clean- Use rubbing alcohol to get the old grimy grease off your chain, then re-apply a chain lubricant. This will keep your chain from squeaking and give you a smooth ride.
    • Check tire pressure often- All tires list the adequate tire pressure and keeping your tires pumped will help keep you from getting a dreaded flat tire and contribute to a smooth ride.
    • Lighting- Washington State requires riders to have a front light and a rear reflector for visibility during night riding. Make sure your lights have fresh batteries and work properly.
    • Visit the web for tutorials-  The internet has many videos and sites discussing how to fix, repair, or maintain your bike.  The League of American Bicyclists also offer basic information here.
    • If you do not know how to adjust your brakes and shifters, bring your bike to any of the following local bike shops for a full tune up.
